Post Untitled Mech Novel I'd Like You Guys to Give Me Input On
Yeah. That's a title, all right.

Six or eight months ago (I forget exactly) I was watching Mobile Suit Gundam, the '79 original, online, and I wondered aloud, "What would I do instead?" Would I have kept the same, classic storyline, or would I have gone for something more realistic, or, well, realistic to me, anyway. I decided to write a fanfiction that would basically be "The One Year War, My Way".

That project didn't happen. At all.

I was playing MGS3 yesterday when that idea popped into my head again. This time, though, an image popped into my head along with the idea. I saw a desert landscape, with a convoy traveling across an empty road. I saw that convoy attacked, by a small amount of mechs. This, however, wasn't Gundam at all, but something different.

As happens often, I grabbed a pen and paper and I started writing a chapter. A prologue, as it eventually became. I got a lot of feedback on my ZOE1 fan novel, so I wondered if you guys wouldn't mind reading this short prologue I've written.

PROLOGUE - HIGHWAY TO HELL

Lieutenant Coulder kept his rifle tight against his shoulder the entire length of the highway. The road into Baghdad was wide open, in many ways. It was empty, providing them ease of passage; it was along an empty stretch of desert; and there was no cover from any enemy attack. He didn't know whether to laugh at the ease or the stupidity of the situation.

Coulder peered down his M16's sights and saw something tall off in the distance. He pulled his binoculars from his pack and held them up to his eyes. The sight he saw was incomprehensible: it appeared to be a suit of armor, but even to be visible from this distance, it would have to be fifteen meters tall. Lowering the binoculars, he saw a bright flash from the tall object. After that, shit got serious.

The truck ahead of Coulder's exploded in bright orange flames. The four tanks in the convoy all swiveled their turrets in the direction of the suit of armor, but their cannons didn't fire. Coulder's CO was screaming into his radio, shouting for an answer, but all he got was static. Coulder put his binoculars up again in time to see more flashes from the armor, only now he knew what they were.

Muzzle flashes.

A tank behind Coulder's truck exploded, sending the debris flying everywhere. The turret landed on the cab of the lead truck, while a shower of the treads rained down on the whole convoy. People were running everywhere, trying to get away from the shower of metal. Coulder scrambled under one of the escort jeeps, losing track of his rifle in the process. He quickly ripped his M9 from his holster and waited for the inevitable attack from the frontline troops.

Instead, two more armors joined the first.

In his last moments, Coulder watched as three fifteen meter tall machines stomped all over the desert, ripping the convoy and his friends to shreds with nothing in the way of mercy or remorse. It was the first - and last - time in his life that he had no idea what anyone had died for. As his lifeless head laid there, eyes open and staring at the lonely road beside him, Coulder's spirit realized that his death was only the beginning.

So, there you go. Feedback would be nice. I'll post chapters when I write 'em, though it would not surprise me if this is just another attempt that goes down the drain. I don't want it to be, though. I just lose interest sometimes.

It's a prologue. It was written in 20 minutes, and it doesn't even take up a whole sheet of paper.
