Hideo Kojima Promises Zone of Enders Sequel
But the Metal Gear creator won't say when.

The Kojima Productions blog has been focused on Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker since its start prior to the Tokyo Game Show. But in a post today, Hideo Kojima touched upon another title: Zone of Enders.

Writes Kojima about PlayStation 2's ZoE 2 (known here in Japan as Anubis: Zone of the Enders), "It's a title that even now, six years later, is extremely well received by the press and users. However, due to errors in setting the release time frame, while it was a medium hit, it did not achieve the expected numbers."

The time frame issue, says Kojima, came about when the game's release date was shifted from its originally planned holiday season 2002 release to release in February of the following year. This was done due to the presence of a large number of major holiday titles from other companies.

In the end, many of those other titles ended up either being strategically pushed back in a similar fashion, or just saw delays. The end result was a bunch of major titles released during the February and March release period as publishers rushed to get them out before the end of the fiscal year.

"Everything was due to an error by me, the producer," says Kojima. "At that time, if I hadn't made a mistake with the release date, Anubis might have ended up a major Kojima Productions title to follow MGS, still seeing development as a series."

Thanks to continued support from users, Kojima says, "We'd like to make an Anubis sequel at some point. Also, we feel that if we do it, we'd like to make Anubis succeed this time. I already have a game plan and method for sales in my head. However, we don't know if it will be green lighted. The production lines within Kojima Productions are currently full."

He finishes on a positive note, though. "I cannot make a promise about time. However, I can promise a sequel."
