Taking place before the events of the first Zone of the Enders game, Z.O.E 2167 Idolo (Z.O.E: Idolo in North America) is an animated movie (OVA) that tells the story of the BAHRAM military, protagonist Radium's goal to become a successful Orbital Frame runner, and how BAHRAM frame runner Viola's personality developed into what it was in Zone of the Enders.

Z.O.E 2167 Idolo and its "special soundtrack" were included as bonus materials in the Zone of the Enders premium package.

Review

"After the disputed success of Zone of the Enders, Hideo Kojima decided to give the series its own OVA and let the Sunrise studio tell a prequel story for the game. And at the same time give a chance for the fans to see how the agile and free of gravity technology Orbital Frame came to be.

6 years before the original game, the movie first gives us a glimpse of its protagonist; a reckless soldier named Radium. FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
Listed below are frequently asked questions regarding Zone of the Enders. The questions and answers henceforth are focused primarily on the 2167 Idolo animated movie and anything closely related, such as the first ZOE game.

Q: What does this have to do with the Zone of the Enders games?
A: ZOE: 2167 Idolo sets up the first game, focusing primarily on the "cold war" between Mars and Earth, and what put the events in motion leading up to the Antilia Raid. It tells the story of a BAHRAM pilot who becomes a test subject for an experimental machine of war that outclasses the LEV, called an Orbital Frame -- the first of its kind.

It also delves briefly into the background of Viola Guines, who would go on to serve as a major antagonist in the first Zone of the Enders game.
Q: Okay, so that has to do with the first game. Then what does it have to do with The 2nd Runner?
A: Very little, apart from the continuous Earth/Mars conflict and how Viola would become a force to be reckoned with. Only the first ZOE had been out, and The 2nd Runner had likely not been conceived for any foreshadowing. Apart from that, different staff worked on the ZOE animated titles than the ZOE PlayStation 2 games.

In regards to the plot, 2167 Idolo likely has much more to do with the animated TV series, ZOE: Dolores,i than any of the games. Orbital Frame Idolo is not mentioned anywhere in any of the games. Anubis, however, does make an appearance in one of the later episodes of the anime.
Q: Was ZOE: 2167 Idolo included with any bundles?
A: If you live in Japan, then yes. 2167 Idolo was included with the ZOE Premium Package, which was Japanese-exclusive. It later went on to be included -- in Blu-ray format -- with the ZOE HD Edition Premium Package Special Edition, straight from KonamiStyle (the 2167 Idolo Blu-ray was also available standalone). There was no western release of either package.
Q: Who would win in a fight between-
A: Please do not go there.
