Post Policenauts
My imported copy of Policenauts finally arrived! I'm using the Junker HQ patch to play this game. I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with this patch, it's not very easy to set up (I had a lot of difficulty getting the ISO and downloading x Delta) but it is definitely worth it.

I'm a couple hours into the game so far, but it's got the obvious Kojima touch - if you've been a fan of the long cutscenes of the Metal Gear games then you'll feel pretty at home here, because this game is all about reading the text - either Jonathan's thoughts on whatever is front of him, or dialogue with another character. The amount of detail in the conversations here is incredible (it's something I'm probably going to want to play through a couple times), and the guys at Junker HQ did a fantastic job on the localization - definitely feels like it could have been the official job.

I think its pretty cool to see the names of people who got their start on this game that stayed with Kojima for a long time after this, Yoji Shinkawa still works with Kojima to this day and Shinta Nojiri (who directed Ghost Babel and both Acid games) stayed through Guns of the Patriots. I swear Jonathan Ingram looks just like Nastasha Romanenko with their cigarettes, the art style on that is basically the same!

Anybody every give this game a try? Or Snatcher for that matter?

Post Re: Policenauts
I'm aware of its presence, its importance in the history of Hideo Kojima games, its impact on the Metal Gear series, and that it is renown among Kojima [and Metal Gear] fans. But what little I have played of Snatcher did not hold my interest for very long. Policenauts may be a different story if I find the time to sit down and give it the chance it deserves to captivate me.

I am afraid I have nothing substantial to offer without much experience with either title. I think I would be more likely to give both games a look if it was more "accessible." Maybe even by today's standards? Perhaps a Steam release, in English, and something more... something... enticing...

I've never played Snatcher, although someday I do intend on buying the Sega CD version. I'm actually surprised you felt that way about it though, it's gotten pretty popular online although if point and click games are not your thing then it would be difficult to get into either of the games.

The main draw of Snatcher and Policenauts is definitely the writing, the world detail, and character development. People thought Guns of the Patriots had a bad gameplay to cutscene ratio, these games might as well be entirely cut scenes (with voice acting only on the vital parts). I'm not finished with the game, but I am finding it to be consistently interesting and engaging, with regard to the areas you go to, the people you talk to, and the things they have to say.

A buddy of mine who is a casual Metal Gear fan was actually asking me about this the other day. I told him that for as much as I am enjoying the game, it's really not for everyone. But if you're the kind of Metal Gear fan that calls everyone on the codec ten times in each room just to make sure you didn't miss something, then this game is for you. Haha.
